Now seems like the perfect time to share goals and resolutions for Project Libertad in the upcoming year. Not only is January a time for reflection, it is also Human Trafficking Awareness Month! What better time to share what we have accomplished in 2016 and plan for what we will achieve in 2017?
2016 was a year of great change and progress for all of us working on PL, both personally and as an organization. Personally, we've finished degrees, passed bar exams, started new career and educational ventures, traveled overseas, and entered into new seasons of our personal and professional lives.
As an organization, we achieved a long-awaited goal that we have been working on since our inception in August 2015: We finally received our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS! This is incredibly exciting, as it opens us up to be able to receive more and larger donations! We also completed the process of becoming a nonprofit corporation in the state of PA! In other words, the legal foundation of Project Libertad is complete, so we are now able to take practical steps forward towards creating our shelter!
This bring us to four main goals for the new year:
As you can tell, we have so many exciting projects in the works for 2017! Please keep an eye on this blog and our Facebook page for updates on how you can get involved!
Thank you to all who donated to our initial fundraising campaign and helped us take Project Libertad from an idea to a real, live organization!
Peace and love,
Rachel & Maggie
