Mission and vision

Project Libertad is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers newcomer immigrant youth and their families by providing essential, youth-led, and youth-centered legal and social services. 

​We envision a world where all newcomer immigrant youth have access to the legal services, social services, academic support, and leadership opportunities needed to thrive.

How to Support Immigrant Youth and Families

2024 Highlights

  • Our Founder and Executive Director was named a
    Top 5 CNN Hero! 
  • In partnership with Immigrant Psychology Network, we continued the work of Conexiones/Connections, a bilingual therapy program that matches immigrant youth with therapists who speak their native language and provides youth with therapy services free of charge.
  • We launched a new Tutoring Program to provide academic support to high school students!
  • We provided free legal representation for 90 immigrant youth, including:
    • ​54 asylum cases
    • 64 Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases
    • Visas for survivors of trafficking and crime
    • Parole in Place
    • DACA renewals, and more!
  • ​We expanded Juntos para Jóvenes: United for Youth, a project that provides direct case management services to newcomer immigrant youth. This program connects youth with needed social services, such as mental health support, health insurance, dental care, academic support, mentoring, and more.
  • We celebrated a T visa approval for one of our deserving clients!
  • Our RISE Girls' Empowerment Program
    continued to serve middle and high school girls,
    including a bilingual visit to Gettysburg College, where they were able to do a campus
    tour and info session in Spanish!

Our Executive Director is a 2022 L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Honoree!

L’Oréal Paris has awarded Rachel Rutter, the Executive Director of Project Libertad, the prestigious honor of being named one of ten L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth in 2022, an award that recognizes the achievements of non-profit leaders making a profound difference in the lives of others by tackling some of our society’s most pressing issues. Rachel is being honored for her work to support and empower newcomer immigrant youth!

As a recipient, our organization has been awarded $20,000! We are thrilled about this amazing recognition and the grant, which is so critical to our work.
