Supporting the Mental Health of Immigrant Youth

Immigrant youth in the United States face unique challenges that can significantly impact their mental health and well-being. Many have experienced trauma in their home countries or during their journey to the US, and upon arrival, they face additional stressors such as:

  • The threat of deportation
  • Lack of legal counsel
  • Difficult family dynamics
  • Cultural adjustment challenges

These challenges can exacerbate existing mental health issues, leading to symptoms of:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

As a result, newcomer youth may struggle academically and behaviorally in school, and often face these challenges in isolation.

Breaking Down Barriers to Access

Conexiones/Connections aims to bridge this gap by providing:
  • Free therapy sessions
  • Bilingual services
  • Access to social services

In 2023, we provided 53 free therapy sessions to support the mental health and well-being of immigrant youth.

By connecting these young individuals with the resources they need, we can help them build resilience, overcome challenges, and thrive in their new home.

This program is a partnership between Project Libertad and Immigrant Psychology Network.
